In order to let international students feel the unique charm of Chinese traditional culture and deepen their knowledge and understanding of China. From November 30 to December 1, 2023, the College of International Exchange organized practical education on the theme of cultural quality development. Ms. Cheng Yawen led the students to visit the red scenic spots and cultural bases in Wuhan. Through visits and field explanations, she helped the students to have a deeper understanding of Chinese history and social life style, so that the students could better adapt to the living environment in China.

Xinhai Revolution Memorial Hall

On November 30, the international students embarked on the first stop of their practice teaching trip - the Xinhai Revolution Memorial Hall. The exhibition hall reproduces a thick and spectacular century-old history of Xinhai in various forms such as relief, miniature landscape and figure sculpture. During the visit, Ms. Cheng explained the history of the Xinhai Revolution to the students, introduced the heroic deeds of the Chinese revolution to them, carried forward the long history and culture of China, and showed the patriotic spirit of the Chinese nation.

After walking out of the Xinhai Revolution Memorial Hall, the international students were more active in the park to interact with everyone. During this period, they showed great curiosity about the ways and methods of kite-flying by the elders in the park, and they humbly learned the skills from the elders and tried to practice them, and even warmly agreed on the next time to fly kites together. Through this visit, international students can come into contact with a large number of Chinese words and expressions, which is helpful to improve their Chinese proficiency.

Later, Ms. Cheng Yawen led the students to Liangdao Street, where they tasted the local food and felt the unique flavor of Wuhan.

Yellow Crane Tower.

The second stop we came to one of the three famous buildings in Jiangnan - Yellow Crane Tower. Under the Yellow Crane Tower, Ms. Cheng explained the architectural history and cultural background of the Yellow Crane Tower carefully to the students. The students also feel the profound and unique charm of Chinese culture. Yellow Crane Tower has a long history, as one of the three famous buildings in Jiangnan, it contains profound cultural significance of Jingchu. Today's Yellow Crane Tower Park is a national 5A park and a landmark of Wuhan.

Hubei Provincial Museum

On December 1st, the international students started the third stop of their practice education tour - Hubei Provincial Museum. Entering the exhibition area, there are more than ten exhibitions in the museum, such as "Chu Culture Exhibition", "Tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng", "Tomb of King Zhuang of Liang - Treasure of Zheng He Era". Entering the "Zeng Hou Yi" exhibition Hall, these ancient relics from 2000 years ago have brought wonderful aesthetic experience to international students. From "respecting heaven and worshiping ancestors" to "observing elephants and giving time", they marveled at the beauty of Chinese ritual vessels and the fantasy of the stars. During the visit and study of this exhibition hall, Ms. Cheng Yawen immersed everyone to understand the ancient relics and the stories behind them, which deepened the understanding of Hubei and Chinese culture for international students. International students showed great interest in this and took photos.

After the visit, teacher Cheng Yawen led the group to the Pakistani restaurant, and tasted the food of his hometown together with the international students, enhance mutual understanding and friendship, and experience different cultural flavors.

Tanhualin

Finally, we came to the last stop of the trip - Tanhualin. Tanhualin is a microcosm of the modern history and culture of Wuhan, which completely reflects the historical and cultural development of Wuhan since its opening. The main street of 1200 meters is covered with more than 50 modern historical buildings of more than 100 years, including churches, hospitals, apartments, gardens, consulates, etc., with various categories and styles, eastern and Western cultures collide and blend here, which is called the street museum of Chinese and Western architecture. On the way, teacher Cheng Yawen also explained Chinese medicine culture and chess culture to the international students. Between steps, stepping on this piece of cultural fertile soil, international students are deeply attracted by the magnificent cultural architecture, the charm of Tanhualin has been deeply in their hearts during the visit and study.

This practice teaching activity in Wuhan, although there are many trips, it is warmly welcomed by international students. From the eye to the walk to the heart to start, so that students can get into into the history of China and perceive the Communist Party of China's mental journey from the visual, tactile, auditory multi-sensory . Respect China through understanding, understand China through perception, and fall in love with China through understanding. At the same time, through field visits and personal experience, international students can better understand Wuhan, so as to better integrate into Chinese society in the future study and life.
